Martin M. Holmes, Sr.

I Have practiced law in Michigan since 1974.  I am a member in good standing in the State Bar of Michigan, admitted to practice in both the state courts of Michigan and federal courts. I regularly practice in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Michigan and  have never been disciplined or sanctioned by any the State Bar or any judge, for any reason.

I have handled consumer bankruptcy cases for over 35 years.  Since 2004, I have devoted 90 % of my practice to helping debtors with Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcies. I do not generally represent Creditors.

I have been a member of NACBA since 2005. I am also a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute, Consumer Bankruptcy Association of Michigan  and Debtors Bar of Western Michigan I am a member of the board of directors of the Debtors Bar of Western Michigan.  All these professional organizations provide continuing legal education to their attorney members so that we remain up to date as the laws change. I regularly attend seminars and educational events sponsored by these organizations.  I am a member of the Federal Bar Association, Bankruptcy Section and Business section.

Because bankruptcy issues are often determined by state law I maintain memberships in the following sections of the State Bar of Michigan: Real, Property Section, Family Law Section, Business Law Section. This keeps me up to date on on changes in these areas of law. Each of these sections of the state bar conduct seminars, provide educational publications and online resources in their area of the law. I am also a member of the State Bar of Michigan Master Lawyers Section and a partner in the Institute of Continuing Legal Education.(ICLE ). ICLE is a jointly sponsored Institute of the University of Michigan and is cosponsored by the State Bar of Michigan and all of Michigan‘s major law schools. For more than 50 years, ICLE has worked to support the education needs of Michigan lawyers. ICLE seminars, publications, and online resources provide step-by-step guidance from Michigan lawyers.
